BLOEMFONTEIN IS CHOLERA FREE!!
With all the reports on cholera cases in some areas of the country it is worthwhile to report that Mangaung (Bloemfontein, Thaba Nchu and Botshabelo areas) is still CHOLERA FREE.
No cases were reported and the drinking water distribution system is protected and safe. Recreational water is constantly monitored with regard to Full-contact recreation, Intermediate-contact and Non-contact recreation compliance.
SWINE FLUE H1N1 (influenza)
The Provincial Port Health Services have taken adequate measures to ensure preparedness and response should any case be identified.
OUR DRINKING WATER IS SAFE
The quality of our drinking water (tap water) complies with the National Standards for drinking water quality and poses no threat to the health and well being of consumers.
The Environmental Health Services unit together with the Microbiological Laboratory and the Water and Sanitation division follows a Water Quality and Safety program to monitor, evaluate and control the quality of water (at their respective water purification plants, in the distribution system and at the point - of – use) supplied to consumers to ensure that the water pose no threat to their health and well-being.
A Water Action Group is responsible to execute the Water Contingency Plan (Failure response plan) if and when a water quality failure occurs.
FOOD PREMISES
We are proud to report that all the food premises (hotels, restaurants, café’s, take aways, etc) are inspected by Environmental Health Officers (EHPs) to ensure consumer protection. The Environmental Health Services Division has a Food quality and Safety programme in place to monitor, evaluate, control and regulate the quality and safety of food products, with the ultimate goal to reduce and / or eliminate health risks (e.g. food poisoning).
ENTERTAINMENT PREMISES
All the premises (taverns, pubs, night clubs and escort agencies) are evaluated and certified in
terms with relevant legislation. Specific focus is place on Noise and Tobacco smoke control.
ACCOMMODATION ESTABLISHMENTS
All our hotels and 122 other accommodation establishments are frequently being inspected by EHPs to ensure compliance to all relevant health legislation. Specific focus relates to linen, vector/pest control, food quality and general hygiene.
